JAnnabelle very well. This is something I use(d) to joke about in Chinese. Watermelon in Chinese is 西瓜, which literally means "Western pumpkin". Pumpkin is 南瓜, Southern pumpkin. There is also 冬瓜 (winter pumpkin), which is sometimes (incorrectly) written 東瓜, Eastern pumpkin. (東 and 冬 sound the same.)
But I never heard of a Northern pumpkin (北瓜), which is why I joke sometimes that Chinese is not consequent for leaving out one direction. Well, here it suddenly was...
