I've had suspicions that the part of the spaghetti inside the sausage might be a little harder than the rest, lacking direct contact with water. While that appeared to be true, it wasn't really bad.
So for the second run I cut the sausage into shorter pieces and stuck fewer spaghetti inside: problem solved, works very well.
