You know you are in Germany when the airport doesn't offer free water, to encourage you to pay instead. And you know that things must have gone bad when instead of the machines offering coffee, tea and cocoa for free at the gates you only find pay coffee.

This is Frankfurt airport, where two years ago I still enjoyed a free hot cocoa while waiting for my connect flight at six in the morning. That is gone. Two years ago I didn't need to go through body scanners, now they are installed at all security checks.

Could it be that the body scanners were so expensive that cuts had to be made elsewhere?
