"What's more, Ecuador offers the United States economic aid of $23 million annually, similar to what we received with the trade benefits, with the intention of providing education about human rights," Alvarado added.

Dumm gelaufen, liebe Verlage!

Dumm gelaufen, liebe Verlage!

Merkel: You know, that e-mail surveillance thing, I'm not really fond of it.
Obama: Yeah, I know that already.

Some time back it was suggested that the only thing surely preventing your webcam from being used to spy on you is a physical lens cover. (or unplugging) Now people willingly accept this. Good luck!

It had to be done. The picture, I mean. The XBOX One definitely did not have to be done. On a side note, I've been seeing people shorten this console's name to Xbone, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

There's something rotten in the state of Texas...

Just read the article and you may ask yourself a lot of questions. Like: So is it OK for mentally unstable people to own guns? And it is OK for them to shoot people, as long as they "regret their sins"?

Summer in the Tropics

Summer in the Tropics

Yes, we too have summer now. I know, our temperatures have long exceeded what many people use now to judge their summer arrived. So how does one know that it is summer on a tropical island? For me it is simple: I turn on the cold water to get warm one, and warm water to get cold water.

Sounds crazy? Let me explain: The water pipes to buildings here in Taiwan can not withstand much pressure. (Not sure if simply for cheapness or because an earthquake would do less damage.) So every building has a pump that transports water to a water tower (or a few) on the roof. That tower is usually exposed to the sun.

To get warm water, we have a boiler with a small built-in storage capacity. That boiler is thermally insulated and not on the roof. So, in summer the sun heats up the water in the water tower, and only the first few seconds of cold water will be more or less cold, because that water was already in pipes inside the walls. After that comes warm water from the tower.

The boiler however is not hit by the sun, so it keeps the water inside cool. And that is why we turn on cold water to get warm water, and warm water to get cold water in summer. And summer it is.

OK, after seeing this being (re)posted for some 20+ times, even I have noticed that scientists are working on a photo sensor that may allow taking photos entirely without flash. I got it!

I am now looking forward to the next 20 (re)posts of this life-changing discovery.
