Ah, well, that was four years ago, my daughter and me happily playing inside the children's art gallery in Gaoxiong. Thanks for the reminder, Google Photos...

Taizhong is very busy this Sunday afternoon. Luckily it was cloudy, but didn't rain. Otherwise it would either have been very warm or the lawn would have turned into a swamp...

Big Anniversary!

Big Anniversary!

For those who didn't know, a short explanation: Berlin (the German capital) has been working on building an airport. Is still working. Due to having been split over a few decades, the city featured three rather regional airports when it became one at the time of the unification, so back then talks started about building a bigger airport, more suitable for Germany's united capital.

That was in 1991. The talks continued for quite a few years, then at some point finally a decision was made, planning began, years later even construction work. And then the airport was supposed to open. But due to all kinds of problems, the opening was delayed, and delayed, and delayed...

So what is the anniversary? Exactly 2000 days ago the airport should have opened. Yes, the opening has been delayed for 2000 days (more than five years) so far. And no end of that delay is in sight, since the only thing reliable in connection with this airport is the continuous surfacing of new problems.

Will we see 3000 days delay? Chances aren't too bad for it...

"What do we do today, Garfield?"
"The same as every day, Gigi, we take over the world."
"From the rear balcony?"

"Right."

Happy Easter, if you celebrate it...

For all those who are still limited to photographing rather white landscapes, here are some colours, taken two weeks ago when it was slightly "fresh". It is not now.

Need some warmth?

It is tea, exhibited in a tea plant in Taoyuan, with batch number. I do however not remember what kind of tea it was, the plant was processing several kinds, including black tea.

To my knowledge this is the only still operational steam locomotive from the first batch at the Alishan Railway.

To my knowledge this is the only still operational steam locomotive from the first batch at the Alishan Railway. You can tell from the fact that instead of being completely covered in protective paint, moving parts are actually greased. Also, all windows are present.

I had seen this one before at this park, but my previous phone had only pretended to take a photo. The new one is a bit more reliable, so when I saw 25 was back I took a few more photos.

I don't know how much of this locomotive is still functioning, but it is moving around and first did so a hundred years ago. I only wish I could see this one in action...

If you ever happen to come to the HSR station in Taizhong (Taichung), take the time to go to the connection to the TRA station. No need to leave the building, everything is under one roof. You will find a number of exhibits made of cardboard, very nicely done.

Many are railway-related, but there is also a Totoro. While you are there, you may also want to have a look at the robot made entirely out of railway tickets. And last but not least something not often seen in Taiwan: a model railway, H0 iirc.

Well, just in case you happen to get there...

Side note: Google put the photos in the opposite order...

Winter season is over, so here is my short review of a useful accessory I tested, a jacket warmer.

Winter season is over, so here is my short review of a useful accessory I tested, a jacket warmer. Many of us like to ride the whole year, but who wants to slip into a cold jacket? Terrible thought, right?

That's where the jacket warmer comes in. Mine is purely organic, for several reasons: Firstly you don't need to worry about batteries or extension cords. But the organic models also come with a much higher mobility and autonomy: All you need to do is leave the jacket at a somewhat accessible location (This includes chairs etc.) and the jacket warmer will move into the jacket very quickly, all by itself. No more cold jackets.

So, I can only recommend getting one before the next cold season. Mine is the model "Gigi" - very reliable, very efficient.
