Mission accomplished?

Mission accomplished?

This photo may not look much, but a month ago it would have been impossible. Here are Nimrod and Garfield, resting on the floor, only a few centimeters apart.

A little over a month ago on a Saturday morning, Nimrod was very agitated and shot out the door as soon as I opened the mosquito screen. I had barely time to guess what he was up to and press him to the ground just in time before he got to the cardboard box under which a cat mother had dropped three kittens.

Nimrod had always been a single pet, is pretty easily scared and tries to cover that fear up by pretending to be tough. He always disliked cats and would have attacked one at once if he didn't expect any harm for himself.

And there he is now, not necessarily the cats' best friend, but accepting them as housemates. OK, he is intimidating them a bit, sniffing their butts every once in a while, but just being curious, not hostile.

Some time ago, when I told people I was thinking about getting a cat, they all said that would be impossible with a dog like Nimrod. Well, I think they may have been a little bit wrong...
