Line, a messenger quite popular in Asia, just asked me to agree on their updated privacy policy - including sharing my information for marketing purposes. Continued use is only possible after agreeing to all three items.

Luckily they only have my phone number, no other information regarding my person (contacts excluded). It's interesting how directly they mention marketing, usually something like this would be hidden or very nicely phrased...

Congratulations, Line, now you suck not only technically...

I can't help but notice the utter lack of a DO NOT AGREE option in any way shape or form. If this would be in the EU they would not get away with it, at least in the long run, as GPDR is slowly gearing up to tackle these data-bandits.

Wilco Roos you can only agree to everything or not use it. Unfortunately many organizations around here use Line, so they are relatively "safe", but Telegram is picking up and Line has a few rather inconvenient "features":
- I can only use it on a phone, not on a tablet.
- I can only use it on one phone.
- There is no built-in backup mechanism.
- If I get a new phone and log into Line the first time, data will be wiped on my previous phone the next time it goes online.

Olaf Fichtner It does not sound like a service i would be using, way to many 'red marks' like the ones you named, but also the simple fact they do not give you a choice, this menu/pop-up is not a choice, its a hostage situation, you better agree or else you account is toast.

Wilco Roos Line was there when Android became popular, that's why so many people here use it. It was a great piece of software then, but while much else advanced, Line relied on cosmetic "improvements", like icon collections. It probably wouldn't be that popular if it came out today.

Not here, thank goodness.
