Rob Bonewitz yeah, it's good for walking, especially when MRT is not running yet. Unfortunately our night temperatures are not much lower than during daytime, plus humidity is always rather high, so after four kilometres my shirt was rather wet...
From what I remember, from my stays in the Hilton, that area is usually a sea of people. On my first trip I went down to reception and asked if it was safe to have a walk around, the girl looked at me a bit strangely and said it was safe to go anywhere in the city. It was too, even the red light district at the back of snake alley, which I stumbled upon by accident. I decided to go left out of the hotel, but was immediately faced with everybody going the other way, which made progress impossible. I soon turned around and went with the flow. I'd never seen so many people in my life. Let alone the amount of small motor bikes and scooters. I guess it's changed a bit since then. 😀
Tony Hales oh, during daytime it's still full of people and vehicles. But at half past four not much happens, even the early breakfast stalls don't start before half past five. I had to go to a 7-11 to get something to eat and drink, nothing else was open.
Of course the big bus terminal (relatively new, so you probably haven't seen it) is operating around the clock, because some companies are, but even there the escalators are stopped until some time in the morning.
